Verge Jersey and Arm Warmers
By Jon Sharp
Verge Sport are makers of clothing apparel of all types. They have an extensive custom program and are able to customize all of their products. For instance, with jerseys, not only can you choose the design, but you can choose from an extensive array of fabrics as well. Reviewed here is their jersey in M-Tec Stinger fabric, and their Arm Warmers.
As stated above, the jersey Verge sent us is made with their M-Tec Stinger fabric. According to their site: "M-TEC STINGER™ is made from a combination of M-TEC™ and DRYFIL® fibers. DRYFIL® fibers utilize a special cross section and micro-slits which allow moisture to be quickly absorbed and dispersed to the surface of the fabric." While most manufacturers can come up with similar jargon to explain why the fabric they use is superior, I found the M-Tec Stinger to be what it claims. The fabric is very comfortable to the skin, and breathes well.
Verge's jersey is cut to what some may consider "pro-fit"--which means it is made for tiny, fit cyclists. While it fit tighter than many jerseys in my closet, it wasn't as snug as others. In fact, I found I really liked the fit. (Bear in mind, though, that you might want to order a size larger.) The jersey has a long 3/4 length zipper and three spacious rear pockets.
Every cyclist should have a set of arm warmers in their wardrobe. They are extremely versatile for keeping you comfortable--especially during the change of seasons or on early morning rides. For their arm warmers, Verge uses Super-Roubaix--a slick on the outside, brushed on the inside 9.0 oz Lycra. It is both stretchy and very warm.
When out in chilly temperatures, the Verge arm warmers (with the help of a wind vest when it got really cool) helped me to stay warm. When the sun came up, or the clouds parted, I could either pull the arm warmers down around my wrists, or remove them and stuff them in my jersey pockets. As with the jersey, quality was very high, and after months of use, I could find no visible signs of wear.
Summary: If you're looking for quality cycling apparel, take a look at Verge. Besides what was reviewed here, they make jackets, vests, shorts, bibs, gloves and more. If you want something custom, almost everything they make can be printed (actually, sublimated) to suit your team/design. I love my M-Tec Stinger jersey and arm warmers. They remain a favorite in my cycling wardrobe. The jersey retails for $60-70--depending on the style. Arm warmers are $24.95. More details about their custom work can be found on their website (http://www.vergesport.com/custom.php).
