Moss Superfly Tent
Here's a minimalist's dream tent-with a retro name. The Superfly is part tent, part wing (like a
tarp). In its most basic form, the Superfly is a wing requiring one center pole. If you have a
hiking staff, it can serve as the center pole, further reducing weight requirements. You stake the
wing's corners, place the pole in the center and you're done.
Now for the tent part of this story. The Superfly has a footprint-a groundcloth made to the exact
dimensions of the wing-giving you a roof and a floor, just as you would with a standard wing
and a tarp.
Moss added an ingenious touch by adding a fabric lip to the base of the wing, roughly 6 inches
wide. The wing has side buckle clips in each interior corner and matching clips on the footprint.
Attach the clips and the footprint sits on top of the wing's fabric lip forming an enclosed base-a
tent! This certainly isn't a four-season abode, but for what appears to be two pieces of flat tent
fabric, this makes a pretty cozy fully-enclosed tent at a mere x pounds, x ounces (with the center
pole).
Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest ones. This one is both simple and one of the best. For
the weight-conscious backpacker, hiker, biker, or boater the Moss Superfly deserves
consideration. Moss set the SRP for the Superfly at $279, perhaps placing out of range for the
casual or cost-conscious customers.
