Profile Design 1/Fifty Carbon Clincher Wheelset Profile Design 1/Fifty Carbon Clincher Wheelset
With flimsy ultralight wheels becoming the norm in the industry, being able to find solid wheelset that won't weigh your bike down has become increasingly difficult. Profile Designs understood your plight and quickly got to work designing the 1/Fifty Carbon Clincher Wheelset--a stiff and stable wheelset with a full carbon aero rim that doesn't cost more than your frame. The wide wheels and full-carbon aero rim yields stability when pummeled with a crosswind, and the Tg resin quickly dissipates heat for reliable braking during long, winding descents. In order to keep the price of the wheels within most cyclists' budget, Profile Design utilized the same production model it used to build its TwentyFour series by incorporating a semi-automated system that streamlines the manufacturing process.

Profile Design 38/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Disc Wheel Profile Design 38/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Disc Wheel
Back in the '90s, Profile Design was primarily involved in creating aero bars and wind-cutting accessories for triathlon bikes. Since then, they've been busy in developing cutting-edge wheels for road cycling and racing applications. Case in point, the 38/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Disc Wheel by Profile Design is a speedy workhorse that sets PRs on your favorite segments with its impressive balance of streamlined aerodynamics, unbelievable power transfer, and relatively lightweight construction. 6-bolt disc hubs deliver reliable stopping power during sustained descents and soaking-wet conditions, which is something that traditional carbon wheels have struggled with in the past. Profile's engineers settled upon the 38/TwentyFour's rim depth and width profile from extensive wind tunnel testing in conjunction with Computational Fluid Dynamics. Because wind tunnel testing alone isn't necessarily transferable to real-world situations where wind speed and direction are constantly in flux, Profile Design worked with Speed Theory to simulate the historical wind patterns and angles of popular race courses while riding the 38/TwentyFour. After simulating the predominant wind speeds and patterns of popular race venues, Profile then tried out different width and depth profiles with Computational Fluid Dynamics to achieve an optimal balance between slippery aerodynamics and stable handling in tricky crosswinds. The result is a wheel that's 38-millimeters deep and 24-millimeters wide externally, giving you just enough aerodynamics to shave precious seconds on the flats while maintaining a relatively low weight on the climbs and handling crosswinds without the dreaded "sail effect."Looking to the hubs, you'll find the use forged and machined 6061-T6 aluminum with a shot peened anodized finish that's 18 percent stronger than standard aluminum freehubs. The shot peened anodized finish prevents cassette damage from digging into the hub body or moving unnecessarily, which translate...

Profile Design 58/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Disc Wheel Profile Design 58/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Disc Wheel
Given Profile Design's notoriety for producing aerodynamic triathlon components, it makes perfect sense they'd create the 58/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Disc Wheel for riders seeking to shave every second from spirited training rides and competitive racing scenarios with their medium-dish profile that balances aerodynamics with crosswind stability. Carbon construction ups the ante in stiffness, ensuring every watt of available power is transferred into forward motion. And since disc brakes have become increasingly popular with road cyclists and triathletes alike, this particular wheel accommodates the powerful stopping force of 6-bolt disc rotors. Extensive research and design went into the 58/TwentyFour's rim depth and width profile, with Profile engineers using a mixture of wind tunnel testing and Computational Fluid Dynamics in testing the wheel's aerodynamic prowess. And because wind tunnel testing alone isn't necessarily transferable to real-world situations where wind speed and direction are constantly in flux, Profile Design worked with Speed Theory to simulate the historical wind patterns and angles of popular race courses in relation to the 58/TwentyFour's wheel depth and width profile. After simulating the predominant wind speeds and patterns of popular race venues, Profile then tried a number of different rim widths and depths for their particular wheel applications. In this case, they settled upon a 58-millimeter deep carbon wheel for an obvious aero advantage with a slightly curved side and rounded spoke-facing edge that manages lateral crosswinds better than a traditional airfoil rim. As for the 24. 5-millimeter rim width, Profile found this width straightens the tire's sidewalls, subsequently creating a plusher ride with less rolling resistance. Looking at the hub, Profile uses a forged and machined 6061-T6 aluminum hub with a shot peened anodized finish that's 18 percent stronger than standard aluminum freehubs. The shot peened anodized finish p...

Profile Design 58/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Wheelset Profile Design 58/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Wheelset
Long known for its aero bars and wind-cutting triathlon accessories, Profile Design has expanded its reach over the past few years to include additional componentry, including wheels. The 58/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Wheelset combines Profile's long-established expertise in aerodynamics and reputation for durability to give any road or time trial bike a fast, smooth ride towards whatever finish line you choose. Profile collaborated with specialists in Computation Fluid Dynamics to analyze wind tunnel data and determine the best rim shape to achieve low drag and solid handling in crosswinds. To replicate real-world situations, the engineers even mapped out weather data from recent high-level cycling and triathlon events to recreate those wind conditions in the tunnel. The result of all this work is a wheel that isn't just fast in the virtual lab world -- it's fast out on the pavement in real-world wind conditions. The name tells you a lot about these wheels. The 58 references a 58mm medium-dish, aerodynamic rim with an external width of 24. 5mm to straighten the tire's sidewalls for a plusher ride with less rolling resistance. The rim itself has a slightly curved side and rounded spoke-facing edge that manages the lateral force of crosswinds for better stability than traditional airfoil rims. Profile uses its own high Tg point resin on the carbon braking surface for a claimed 30% increase in heat capacity compared to other high Tg resins used in the industry for carbon braking surfaces. This means, in theory, that these wheels have better, more consistent braking across changing weather conditions and long descents than the competition. The wheels let you stop constantly checking those hourly temperature reports and radar forecasts and get out for a ride with confidence that you'll be able to stop when you need to, regardless of weather. The other half of the name references Profile's TwentyFour Series hubs. They're made of forged and machined 6061-T6 aluminum...

Profile Design 78/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Wheelset Profile Design 78/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Wheelset
For the past few decades, Profile Design has led the industry in aerobar design and expanded its purview to include additional accessories and componentry. During this expansion the company dipped its toes into the world of wheels to create the 78/TwentyFour Carbon Clincher Wheelset. Happily for us, Profile also brought its expertise in aerodynamics and reputation for durability along for the ride. To create the 78/TwentyFour, Profile collaborated with Computational Fluid Dynamics specialists and spent many hours in the wind tunnel to determine the best rim shape to reduce drag and stay steady in crosswinds. Part of this process included mapping out weather data gathered from recent high-level cycling and triathlon events to recreate wind conditions and test potential wheel behavior in real-world conditions while still taking advantage of the controlled data gathering of a wind tunnel. The result of all this analysis is a wheel that isn't just fast in a sterile lab environment -- it's fast out on the road and will cut through the wind like a hot knife through the butter that you've given up eating while cutting down to race weight. As far as shape is concerned, the name says it all with these wheels. They feature a 78mm deep-dish, aerodynamic rim with an external width of 24. 5mm. While the latter dimension accommodates the current trend of wider tires with lower PSI for a plusher ride that reduces rolling resistance, the real story here is the shape the rim takes across those 78mm of depth. The rim bulges slightly, with a rounded spoke-facing edge to better manage crosswinds for more stability than traditional airfoil rims. Profile uses its own high Tg point resin at the carbon braking surface for a claimed 30% increase in heat capacity compared to other high Tg resins used across the industry. This means, in theory, that the 78/TwentyFours have better, more consistent braking across changing and inclement weather conditions and long descents than the competi...
