Wilier Cento10 Air Alabarda Road Frameset - 2017 Wilier Cento10 Air Alabarda Road Frameset - 2017
Wilier's 2017 Cento10 Air Alabarda Road Frameset takes the brand's line of aero road frames to a whole new level. Its updated tube shapes and integrated cockpit work together for a claimed 15% reduction in overall weight and eight percent increase in aerodynamic efficiency over its Cento1 Air predecessor. In other words, the Cento10 Air is built to go fast. The Cento10 Air benefits from Wilier's expertise in the wind tunnel. Its tube shapes break from recent trends in narrow, long tubing to present as wider leading faces with NACA-inspired tapering that varies across the frame to balance weight and aerodynamics while remaining within the UCI's race-allowable guidelines. Compared to the Cento1 Air, the Cento10 Air also sees an increase in frontal area at the headtube, with a wider fork that comes with claims of reducing turbulence around the wheels for smoother airflow. The Cento1 series has long been associated with integrated seatmasts. However, similar to the most recent Cento1 Air, Wilier wanted to keep the ride of the Cento10 Air utilizes a more traditional seatpost to reduce road vibrations and provide a more comfortable ride. Naturally, the teardrop shape is proprietary, and was developed to reduce turbulence as air slips around it. It's held in place by a seatpost clamp developed in conjunction with Ritchey that sits stealthily in the seat tube and hides from the wind. To ensure rigidity and confident handling, the Cento10 Air has been constructed from a 60t Mitsubishi high-modulus carbon fiber. The 'T' in 60t refers to ton, as in it can withstand 60 tons of pressure per square millimeter. Wilier used strong carbon fiber, because the stronger the carbon, the less is needed. Thus, Wilier was able to strike an ideal balance between strength and weight.Other differentiators for the Air include internal cable routing, which is compatible with both electronic and mechanical drivetrains. Most importantly, however, is the Air's new integrated cockpit. Dubbed Al...

Wilier GTR SL Road Frameset - 2017 Wilier GTR SL Road Frameset - 2017
The 2017 Wilier GTR SL Road Frameset flies against current trends in ever more specialized function. Its versatile endurance geometry and wider tire clearance collaborate with lightweight carbon construction to create a bike that may not be the best at any one thing, but boats the versatility to try everything from crosswind-riddled coastal roads to mountain climbs and prairie flats alike. For those of us who pride long-mile comfort and the ability to use one bike across many applications over race-bred, marginal gains aggression, the GTR SL is poised to be the bike you'll want to take along for the ride. We're aware that there's potential for negative assumptions anytime we designate a frame's geometry as "endurance." It conjures images of upright boardwalk cruisers or weekend charity fondos punctuated with frequent stops for peanut butter sandwich quarters and tiny cups of candy-coated chocolates in volunteer-staffed rest areas. The GTR SL is happy to dabble in those passive pastimes, but its take on "endurance" geometry actually falls between the comfort-focused machines produced by most manufacturers and the Euro-slammed race bikes populating criteriums the world over. The GTR geometry manages to feel at home in everything from circuit races to hill climbs to coffee shop loops. It may not be the capital-B Best at any one discipline, but few of the endurance frames we've ridden over the past several years do so well in so many applications. When compared to the GTR Team, the GTR SL frame loses about 200g of claimed weight by bumping the Mitsubishi carbon up from 46/30t to a truly high-modulus 60/46t mix. Those impressive numbers let Wilier hit its targets for stiffness-to-weight ratio with much less material. There is a corresponding increase in price, but -- given the weight savings -- we think it's worth it to spring for the SL.In a signature Wilier design move, the GTR SL's head tube is built up with a squared shape for greater resistance to flex under hard ...

Wilier GTR SL Ultegra Complete Road Bike - 2016 Wilier GTR SL Ultegra Complete Road Bike - 2016
If we had one critique of Wilier's GTR Team frame, it's that the lower grade carbon used in its construction bumps the claimed weight up above the 1,100g mark. That's pretty petty, we know, especially when the half-endurance/half-race geometry makes it such a pure joy to ride. Wilier addresses this petty concern with the GTR SL Ultegra Complete Road Bike, which combines a full Shimano Ultegra drivetrain -- even the crankset, which is often where specs take a miserly turn -- with a lightweight frame that comes within 200g of the Zero. 7 super bike. If we were stuck on a desert island with a 50-mile tarmac circuit that included a crosswind-riddled coastal stretch, a long, sweeping descent, and a CAT 1 climb, this may be the bike we'd want with us. We're aware that there are some potential pitfalls anytime we designate a frame's geometry as "endurance." It conjures images of upright, boardwalk cruising or weekend charity sportives punctuated with frequent stops for trail mix and under-ripe banana halves in volunteer-staffed rest areas. The GTR SL is happy to dabble in those passive pastimes, but its take on "endurance" geometry actually falls between the comfort-focused machines produced by most manufacturers and the Euro-slammed race bikes populating criteriums the world over. Wilier Zero.6 110 SRAM Red eTap Complete Road Bike - 2017 Wilier Zero.6 110 SRAM Red eTap Complete Road Bike - 2017
Wilier put itself in a bit of a difficult position leading up to its 110th anniversary this year. After the Zero family managed to drop significant weight with each new generation, the iconic Italian brand was left with the task of creating a successor to the throne of the Zero. 7 that would pay homage to its quietly illustrious history. After two years of development, Wilier engineers managed to do it, giving us the Zero. 6 110 SRAM Red eTap Complete Road Bike. The frame alone weighs in at a claimed 680g, and rather than wonder how they'll top it next, we're happy to marvel at the impressively crafted, limited-edition design for the foreseeable future. The Zero. 6's striking black and copper paint scheme demands attention of its own, and like the rest of the bike's features, it was chosen carefully. For Wilier, black and copper harkens back to some of the first bikes the brand ever created during the early 20th century, but the elegant aesthetic remains relevant to this day. Throughout Wilier's history, making subtle and carefully calculated changes to create each new model has been far more important than being brash and dramatic. The Zero. 6's frame geometry remains refreshingly similar to that of the Zero. 7; it's all tight angles and compliant, unified feel between the frame and Wilier's signature Integrated Fork. It was bred to corner aggressively and act decisively on everything from sweeping descents to punchy climbs, and now it's lighter than ever. With the Zero. 7, Wilier had maxed out what it could do with its carbon layup process, so trimming weight yet again necessitated revisiting the carbon itself. Together with Mitsubishi, Wilier engineers developed a new material known as Dialed, which it derived from a base material known as Pitch. Pitch itself consists of a blend of high-purity High-, and Ultra-High-Modulus fiber. It then integrated Dialed with materials we've seen Wilier trust before, including 60T carbon fiber and SEI film, using different...

Wilier Zero.6 Unlimited Road Frameset - 2017 Wilier Zero.6 Unlimited Road Frameset - 2017
Creating a successor to the Zero. 7 was no easy task, but Wilier engineers knew they needed to do something special for the company's 110th anniversary. The result of two years of intense development, Wilier's 2017 Zero. 6 Unlimited Road Frameset bursts on the scene weighing a paltry 680 claimed grams with an all-new carbon layup and clean, classic aesthetics. The geometry remains similar to that of the Zero. 7 with tight, race-ready angles and Wilier's seamlessly Integrated Fork that leave no question that the Zero. 6 is bred to corner aggressively and respond decisively on lengthy climbs, tight corners, and sweeping descents. Wilier maxed out what it could do with its carbon layup process in the Zero. 7, so trimming weight yet again required a reevaluation of the material itself. Together with Mitsubishi, Wilier engineers developed a new material known as Dialed, derived from a base material known as Pitch that consists of a blend of high-purity high-modulus and ultra-high-modulus fiber. It then integrated Dialed with materials we've seen Wilier trust before, including 60T carbon fiber and SEI film, using different temperatures and pressure during the molding process in an entirely new construction method. Carbon of such high moduli is exceptionally stiff, light, and efficient, but the tradeoff is usually a shortfall in the ability to absorb road vibrations and survive the hard-knocks life of a dedicated roadie. Rather than dooming you to harsh pavement feedback or a fragile frame, Wilier injects Special Elastic Infiltrated Film (SEI) between layers of carbon to relieve the harsh and brittle nature of high-modulus fiber and imbue the frame with increased vibration absorption and impact resistance. Together, this layup achieves the impossibly low weight and responsive handling that defines the lightest member of the Zero family yet. The Zero. 6 is also built up in the bottom bracket area in order to increase power transfer and accommodate a PressFit BB86 bott...

Wilier Zero.7 Road Frameset - 2017 Wilier Zero.7 Road Frameset - 2017
Wilier uses a 60-ton carbon fiber in the 2017 Zero. 7's construction. And while it's nothing new for the bike industry to use higher modulus carbon to reduce weight and spike the strength ratio, the actual comfort factor drops significantly. High modulus carbon doesn't absorb as much road vibration, leaving your bones rattling. Wilier instead looked at the carbon fiber itself and worked the perfect go-around. The result is a frame that weighs 19% less than its 2014 predecessor. Rather than wrapping a bladder in pure carbon, Wilier incorporates both a Zinc Oxide nanoparticle epoxy resin (ZnO) and SEI, a Special Elastic Infiltrated Film, into its high modulus designs. By using an internal inflating bladder, the material is compacted in the mold from both the exterior as well as the interior. This not only creates a smooth surface with uniform wall thickness, it also eliminates any hotspots of resin buildup. Both the ZnO and SEI work to reduce vibration as well as increase impact resistance. So now you have the best carbon imbued with two near magic compounds. How could the outcome be anything other than podium-worthy' If the innate stiffness of the 60-ton carbon isn't enough, Wilier redesigned the head tube into an hourglass shape to further increase front-end stiffness. Additionally, the shape provides more aerodynamic gains, and anything that makes us go faster is a plus in our books. To finish the frame, Wilier uses its integrated fork, a work of art in its own right. The bottom bracket has also received added attention and now houses the BB386 EVO, with 30% more stiffness over a 68-millimeter bottom bracket. Please note that this frame is not compatible with Campagnolo EPS groupsets.
