Storck Aerfast Comp Shimano 105 Complete Road Bike - 2016 Storck Aerfast Comp Shimano 105 Complete Road Bike - 2016
Amongst the well-heeled family of Storck bikes, the Aerfast is undeniably the sibling that was born to spend its time off the front. Conceived with a focus on aerodynamics, the frame features the same enviable stiffness-to-weight ratio that you'd expect from Storck, with extra attention paid to smooth ride quality. Within the Aerfast line, the Aerfast Comp Shimano 105 Complete Road Bike is the most affordable version. Spec'd with Shimano's new 105 11-speed drivetrain and featuring the same aerodynamic frameset shaping as its pricier siblings, the Aerfast Comp earns the rare distinction of being an attainable but impeccably pedigreed race frame. Storck uses the same molds to construct each of its Aerfast frames, with varying grades of carbon separating each. The unidirectional carbon used to construct the Aerfast Comp requires a heavier layup than the grades used on the other models, adding a few grams to the frame but taking away none of the stiffness, strength, or vibration-dampening effects that you rely on carbon to provide. According to Storck, the Aerfast is about 20% less stiff than its prized Aernario, resulting in a significantly less harsh ride compared to its all-around road racing sibling. Storck prides itself on its demanding tube shaping process, Sectional Aerodynamic Shaping, which the Aerfast frame benefits from in the form of classically-shaped, teardrop tube profiling. While Storck smooths out the tubing on the Aernario in the name of lower weight and versatility, the Aerfast's tubing is purely "aero"; Storck carved the shapes into wind-cheating profiles to deliver you through the air as efficiently as possible during the kind of think-with-your-legs solo moves that leave little room for error. The Aerfast's geometry also helps with this goal, and it's firmly unapologetic in its purpose. Storck constructs the Aerfast with aggressive stack and reach measurements that allow the frame to occupy the selective space between road and triathlon frame...

Storck Aerfast Platinum Road Frameset - 2017 Storck Aerfast Platinum Road Frameset - 2017
Storck has made a habit of creating award-winning framesets, lauded for their blend of exceptional stiffness and feathery weight in the quest for the ultimate race machine. The 2017 Storck Aerfast Platinum Road Frameset continues this tradition as a nominee for road. cc's Superbike of the Year for the past two years and a lazer focus on getting to the finish line as fast as possible. Its aerodynamic design features pair with Storck's trademark stiffness and responsive handling to serve as the starting point for your next dream bike build. The Aerfast Platinum earns its naming convention with a closely guarded, proprietary blend of ultra high modulus and high modulus carbon to take its place as the lightest of the Aerfast line. This gives it the claim of being lighter than comparable top-end models from other brands. The frame also features Storck's Sectional Aerodynamic Shaping, which means the down tube profile is narrower and more droplet-like at the middle compared to the top and bottom sections. This reduces frontal surface area, which reduces drag, all without impacting frame stiffness or handling. A concealed seat clamp keeps excess bolts out of the wind and just plain looks good by providing a super clean transition from seat tube to seat post. At the rear, a direct mount brake tucks in behind the bottom bracket to provide stopping power without catching any wind. The rear triangle on the Aerfast Platinum is something of a revelation, featuring rear-facing dropouts which allow adjustability to customize the space between the wheel and seat tube based on the type of tires you prefer. This option means you'll maintain ride characteristics and snappy handling regardless of the tire. Storck also incorporates proportional tubing to provide a consistent level of aerodynamics and responsiveness across the size range. For an extra dose of stiffness, Storck opts for a beefy BB86 bottom bracket standard that will solidly transfer every bit of power to the drivet...

Storck Aerfast Pro Road Bike Frameset - 2017 Storck Aerfast Pro Road Bike Frameset - 2017
The 2016 Storck Aerfast Pro Road Bike Frameset is built with one thing in mind: speed. With aerodynamic design features and Storck's trademark stiffness and impeccable handling, this frameset is built to fly to the finish line. Made from light, stiff unidirectional carbon fiber, the Aerfast Pro features Storck's Sectional Aerodynamic Shaping, which means the down tube profile is narrower and more droplet-like at the middle compared to the top and bottom sections. This reduces frontal surface area, which reduces drag, all without impacting frame stiffness or handling. A concealed seat clamp keeps excess bolts out of the wind, and just plain looks good with a super clean transition from seat tube to seat post. At the rear, an integrated brake tucks in behind the bottom bracket to provide stopping power without catching any wind. The rear triangle on the Aerfast Pro is something of a revelation, featuring rear-facing dropouts which allow adjustability to customize the space between the wheel and seat tube based on the type of tires you prefer. This option means you'll maintain ride characteristics and snappy handling regardless of the tire. Storck also incorporates proportional tubing to provide a consistent level of aerodynamics and responsiveness across the size range. For an extra dose of stiffness, Storck opts for a beefy BB86 bottom bracket standard that will solidly transfer every bit of power to the drivetrain without any watt-sucking lateral movement. At the front, an integrated, tapered headset and Airfast Pro carbon fiber fork combine for stiff, responsive handling to keep things smoothly in control. Storck caps off the 2016 Storck Aerfast Pro Road Bike Frameset with internal cable routing compatible with both mechanical and electronic shifting systems for clean lines and an extra shot of aerodynamic advantage regardless of setup.

Storck Aernario Comp Disc Ultegra Complete Bike - 2017 Storck Aernario Comp Disc Ultegra Complete Bike - 2017
Two trends have come to define road bikes over the past two years: comfort and disc brakes. Those trends are of course just the latest additions to what we think of when we consider a high-end bike: low weight, high stiffness, and aerodynamic properties. Little surprise that Storck, one of the world's leaders in stiffness-to-weight awards, harnesses all five in the Aernario Comp Disc Ultegra Complete Bike. It's aerodynamic and stiff, so it gets up and goes when you hit the gas, but it's also equipped with disc brakes, so it stops confidently, regardless of conditions. Add to that the frame's built-in comfort and aerodynamics, and the Aernario disc is a bike you can ride all day. If you're familiar with aero-frames, you're most likely aware of the drawbacks that normally plague the category--namely questionable aesthetics and a harsh ride. However, Markus Storck refused to accept the status quo, and he created what Storck calls "sectional aerodynamic shaping." Think of it as an aerodynamic profile on the horizontal plane. By this, we mean that the Aernario's teardrop profile takes shape horizontally rather than vertically. In other words, if you were to take a cross-section, its aero-shape would become strikingly evident. However, the aerodynamic advantage is hidden by a characteristically beautiful silhouette. As with its rim brake-equipped cousin, the Aernario disc was constructed from Storck's own CFR/UD carbon fiber. Compared to a woven carbon fabric, unidirectional carbon is oriented as it sounds, with one direction, or on one axis. Unidirectional fibers tend to better stiffen frames, while also improving the characteristic of vibration dampening. And through a refined layup, this is achieved at a much lower overall weight. It's worth noting that the Aernario is, in fact, molded in a monocoque. In other words, it features a one-piece molded construction. This eliminates excess weight by requiring less carbon and resin application at the tube junctures of the...

Storck Aernario Comp Shimano Ultegra Complete Road Bike - 2016 Storck Aernario Comp Shimano Ultegra Complete Road Bike - 2016
When considering Storck's impressive lineup of frames, it's difficult to designate one frame as being the true alpha. But, we'd be remiss if we denied the Aernario Comp Shimano Ultegra Complete Road Bike its position near the top tier of Storck's road lineup. The race-ready frame begs to be unleashed in the harrowing corners and tight lines of a criterium while its weight -- relatively low for an "aero" frame -- also suits it to long days of vertical gain. Of course, the Aernario Comp also exemplifies all of the other advantages of any bike with a Storck pedigree: an exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio, aerodynamic shaping, and an enviable build kit. The Aernario Comp features the same frame geometry as the pricier Pro and Platinum models, but it's constructed using a grade of Storck's unidirectional carbon fiber that requires a heavier layup than the grades used on its siblings. Though the Comp gains a few grams, it doesn't sacrifice strength, stiffness, or any of the vibration-dampening effects of Storck's lighter, more expensive options. The frame's individual tubes are shaped according to Storck's Sectional Aerodynamic Tube Shapes design, which resembles a classic NACA aerodynamic profile that's slightly revised to shave valuable grams. Minimalists will appreciate the tubes' subtle shaping, which doesn't suggest an ostentatiously "aero" design upon first glance. Regardless of subtlety, though, Storck claims that the frame creates as much of an aerodynamic advantage as possible without resorting to more exaggerated frame lines. Aerodynamics also don't come at the cost of handling; the frame exhibits snappy, responsiveness over everything from wide shoulders on smooth, rolling tarmac, to harsh, weather-beaten switchbacks on nervous descents. That responsive handling comes courtesy of a geometry that caters to the Euro-style, race-ready purists among us. At a time when endurance frame geometries are gaining considerable mainstream appeal, Storck once again ma...

Storck Aernario Disc Road Bike Frameset - 2017 Storck Aernario Disc Road Bike Frameset - 2017
Combining aero design, endurance-race comfort, and powerful stiffness into one package isn't a simple task, or one that's easy to describe, but, like the good Germans they are, Storck came up with a name for such a contraption: the Aernario. In reality, the Aernario concept isn't totally new, but the Aernario Disc Road Bike Frameset is, having been redesigned to be mounted with disc brakes that let you ride harder, faster, and more confidently. Before we get into the brakes, though, let's cover the frame. Storck designed the Aernario Disc to be an endurance racer, which means it has to be aerodynamic--small amounts of drag add up over hundreds of miles--and comfortable, for obvious reasons. Trouble is, aero frames are notoriously stiff and uncomfortable. To solve this quandary, Storck designed the Aernario with a CFR/UD unidirectional carbon-fiber layup. By laying all the carbon fibers down in parallel, Storck gave the Aernario serious stiffness, but also dramatically improved its ability to dampen vibration, so you can ride it hard and long without serious discomfort. Additionally, the frame is molded in monocoque, a one-piece construction that saves weight be reducing the number of joints and amount of material used. Aerodynamic efficiency comes, simply, from the shape of the tubes. The Aernario employs what's called Sectional Aerodynamic Shaping, which manages to endow the frame with an aero teardrop profile that takes shape horizontally instead of vertically, so you get aero benefits without the unflattering aero look. Each tube also features Storck's Proportional Tubing Concept, which basically means every wall, diameter, and taper is finely tuned to ensure smooth ride quality and efficient power transfer. As for the brakes, Storck didn't just slap on discs and call it good. It added a rear thru-axle and burly bottom bracket to take the added torsion of stronger brakes without flexing, which in turn allowed the seatstays to be scandalously thin, which me...

Storck Aernario Platinum Road Bike Frameset - 2017 Storck Aernario Platinum Road Bike Frameset - 2017
Storck uses its CFR/UD Optimized carbon fiber for the Aernario. The UD stands for unidirectional. The Aernario is formed by placing strands of carbon fabric oriented on one axis into each mold. Engineers place the strands in a monocoque shell, meaning that, with the exception of the fork, it is a one-piece molded frame. The advantages of this design are lighter weight due to minimal junctures and optimal vibration dampening. The frame sits among the lightest in the industry, and a full 100 grams lighter than the standard Aernario. The Aernario Platinum is complemented by the award-winning Stiletto fork. Weighing a mere 280 grams, this latest version of the fork is 60 grams lighter than the original Stiletto. It features a tapered design with a carbon reinforced head tube and a 1-1/8 - 1-1/4inc integrated headset. Working with the aerodynamics to maximize speed is an oversized PressFit BB86 bottom bracket. It works to efficiently transfer power to the drivetrain. Internal electronic cable routing completes the package so that the Aernario Platinum can stake claim on the top step of the podium.

Storck Fascenario.3 Platinum Road Frameset - 2017 Storck Fascenario.3 Platinum Road Frameset - 2017
Storck's 2017 Fascenario. 3 Platinum Road Frameset comes with some big claims, with the company investing years of development and touting it as the best road frame in the world. As evidenced by countless stiffness-to-weight ratio awards, Storck has a legendary ability to produce some of the lightest and stiffest framesets available. That leaves us with no doubt that the Fascenario. 3 can go toe to toe with the top models on the market. The specific carbon layup found in the Fascenario. 3 is a closely guarded proprietary secret, but Storck assures us that the Platinum level carbon is a top-tier blend of ultra-high-modulus and high-modulus carbon fiber for a feathery claimed weight of only 1,100g for an entire frameset. To put it in perspective, the Fascenario. 3 (including fork) weighs just a little more than most pure climber's frames only--no fork included. In our experience, frames that light tend to suffer by flexing when the pedals are turned in anger. Not the Fascenario. 3. True to Storck form, it's as light as a feather but as stable as granite when you're hammering. Light frames can also easily cross over from fast to chattering like a tin can, and Storck addresses that potential for discomfort with its Nano Carbon Technology Resin. This process deals in nanoparticles within the resin structure and claims to improve overall strength and provide strategic flex for increases in comfort and durability without impacting weight or efficiency. The tubing features Storck's Advanced Sectional Aerodynamic Shaping (ASAS), which results in a down tube profile is narrower and more droplet-like at the middle compared to the top and bottom sections. This reduces frontal surface area, which reduces drag, all without impacting frame stiffness or handling. Each tube also incorporates a trailing edge designed specifically to minimize wind turbulence for smoother airflow. Out front, the Fascenario. 3's fork benefits from Optimized Aero Fork Design and takes on a unique, ...

Storck Scenero Disc Road Bike Frameset - 2015 Storck Scenero Disc Road Bike Frameset - 2015
Since the geometry of Storck's Scenero line has always lent itself well to long-distance cycling and rides that occasionally stray from the tarmac, it only makes sense to add disc brakes. The Scenero Disc Road Bike Frameset's long geometry makes it ideal as a stable platform for exploring the kinds of terrain where disc brakes are a must, whether that's gravel, dirt, or sweeping descents. The inclusion of thru-axles also stabilizes the frame, providing more stiffness to offset braking forces and maintain confident tracking through terrain that would make a traditional road frame balk. The Scenero Disc frame features the same uni-directional carbon lay-up as its rim-brake counterpart, which orients the carbon across the frame in relation to the load path and force direction at play in each location. The design is first built digitally with 3D CAD imaging, and that virtual blueprint is translated to the dimensions of the mold. The mold itself is a one-piece, monocoque affair. Since there are no tube junctures, there is no excess weight from the additional material and resin needed to reinforce frames comprising multiple sub-assemblies. The bottom bracket is also the same 86. 5mm colossus found on the non-disc Scenero, and it takes advantage of the over-sized down tube to reduce the number of watts lost to flex during punchy efforts. Storck's annual allotment of BOTY awards is beginning to feel automatic, and it's mostly due to the stiffness-to-weight ratio on models like the Scenero. Of course, all of the stiff efficiency in the world is worthless if the ride is so unforgiving that 30 miles in the saddle feels like 10 rounds in the ring. Storck's proportional tubing concept uses adapted dimensions, wall thickness, tube diameter, and tapering across frame sizes to address rider fatigue by focusing on fit. Rather than just increasing tube lengths and angles by arbitrary increments, Storck essentially designed each size as its own, unique model. Every G3 is built t...
