Awesome boot!
These boots are awesome! I've had them on a number of trips including a 15 day backpacking trip in Alaska and they performed great! Comfort: The footbed feels great and provides awesome arch support. The toe bed is roomy enough so allow for thicker socks without cramping your toes together. The laces provide a great amount of support to your mid-foot to keep your feet from sliding forward in the boot when going downhill. We did a number of stream crossing in Alaska that were knee deep with rushing current and that was the only reason these boots got wet on the inside. Even when they were soaking wet they never lost any support, rubbed my feet, or had any weird pressure points to cause blisters. I've had these boots on a number of trips now and never had a single blister. The only negative thing I have to say is about the insole. Its a little thin and if you are planning on doing multi-week trips or have sensitive feet you might want to think about replacing it with a thicker insole. If you are a weekend warrior then it should work fine. Traction: Great! I've hiked through scree, shale, snow, bush, tundra, swamps, streams, wet rocks, dry rocks and maintained trails and these boots grip it all very well. Durability: Built to last. These boots have a number of miles on them now and they still look and feel great! The waterproofing still works great as well. Ankle Support: I look for boots with the most ankle support I can find and these things are great! I never have sore ankles after a long day of backpacking. In summary: These boots are really comfy, have great traction, are built to last and provide you with great ankle support.

Great pair of boots, they fit really nice. Great traction in wet weather. I tookthem out for a three day wilderness stomp in horrible conditons and my feet stayed dry.
Backpacking??
I believe this is a great trail boot when little to no offtrail is contemplated. I have rolled my ankle twice on what I consider moderate off trail. Just not enough ankle support for me. I have also broken off lugs as others have mentioned. Over all, I love Merrell's products, but this one looks much beefier than it is. A good boot for day hiking. I go 6' and 190, so maybe for smaller folks it will do the job. I ended up with the Traverse for my backpacking. Happy trails.
So much to love...
Pros: One of the best Vibram soles I've ever seen. Super deep lugs and very aggressive heel cut (for braking on the downhills). Love the leather uppers, the lacing works well, ankle collar is super comfy, and good forefoot cushion. Cons: Didn't grip my heel securely enough. I seem to have a narrow heel so this is not unusual for me. Final: I wanted to love it, but had to return. The return was totally painless. Love doing business with Backcountry.
Pissed
I love this boot but after wearing for only 4 hours one of the top hook eyelets ripped out. It looks like the rivets are too small. I read about this problem on other review sites but thought Merrell had fixed it.
