SealSkinz Waterproof MVT Gloves
By Scott Clayton

Most experts agree, staying dry and maintaining proper circulation are the keys to enduring extended periods of cold weather. When fishing in the cold, keeping your body warm is simply a matter of layering. Keeping your extremities warm, especially your hands and feet, can be more of a challenge. Feet are hard because you can only layer so much until your shoes don’t fit. Over layering inside your shoes will inhibit circulation which is a common cause of cold feet. Hands are tough, especially while fishing, because you need a level of dexterity difficult to achieve with bulky gloves commonly used in other winter activities.

SealSkinz Waterproof MVT Gloves
SealSkinz Waterproof MVT Gloves are thin, seamless, form fitting gloves. They are waterproof, breathable and windproof. They have an inner layer of CoolMaxÆ, while the outer layer is a combination of nylon, polyester and LycraÆ for durability and stretch. Sandwiched in the middle is the SealSkinz MVT membrane which will wick perspiration away from your skin, while keeping water out. The palms and inner side of the full fingers are covered with "gripper dots" which make it easy to hold on to just about anything.

These gloves do an excellent job of keeping hands dry. Dipping hands into the water in order to release fish is not a problem. They fit several inches past the wrist which makes it easy to keep the water out. I was able to tie my shoes with these gloves on, no problem. However, while I could tie on flies, I found that a more difficult task; occasionally a hook would snag the material. The full fingers are not as nice as half fingers for tasks that require a lot of touch like stripping line or tying on a fly. They fit quite snugly which sacrifices some comfort through a long day of fishing. Periodically, it helped circulation to keep my hands active.

Summary:
When it comes right down to it, because they do such a good job of keeping hands dry, I'll gladly don a pair of SealSkinz gloves on the coldest days and keep on fishing, when in the past my hands got so cold I was forced to quit.

SealSkinz Waterproof MVT Gloves are available in Black, and come in two sizes, medium and large. They retail for $28.50.
