THREE THOUSAND FEET OF EXPOSED ROCK. WRESTLING WITH GRAVITY. RESISTING THE BIG DROP. THIS IS THE BIG STONE EXPERIENCE.
Big Stone video to debut at the Summer Outdoor Retailer show

Park City, UT (August 1999)---Featuring big walls, multiple pitches of 5.13 or better, and looming exposure, Big Stone video will premiere at the Outdoor Retailer show this August. Best explained by director/producer Drew Bedford, "This is more than eye candy. Big Stone reveals the drama of big-wall free climbing. It provides the viewer with insight into what goes through the climbers head before, during and after a big climb."

Until recently the growth of climbing has been fueled by a surge in sport climbing. However, with skills gained on small cliffs, climbers are now searching for bigger adventures. Big Stone captures Tommy Caldwell, Lynn Hill, Nancy Feagin and Chris Sharma tackling these vertical adventures and making climbing history.

Twenty-year-old Tommy Caldwell has already completed the first American ascent of the Salathe Wall (5.13b) on El Capitan, and the Big Stone crew was there to capture it all. In September, X-games gold medalist Chris Sharma will attempt the first American free ascent of El Nino (5.13c) on El Capitan's southeast flank. And Nancy Feagin will go for the first female ascent of the Nose on the Chasm View (5.12R),located in the depths of Colorado's Black Canyon.

Then there's Lynn Hill. A legendary sport climber, Hill has gone on to set the pace for big-wall free climbs with her free ascent of the Nose on El Capitan. What typically takes three to five days--free climbing the entire 30-pitch route--Hill conquered in one day.

With Big Stone, director Drew Bedford, a former member of the U.S. climbing team, takes a leap into feature-length film. For years Bedford has funneled his passion for climbing into his work with outdoor companies. He has directed commercials and videos for advertising agencies Satchi & Satchi and Cole & Weber. In 1997 he founded Bomb-Proof Productions, doing work for Black Diamond, The Access Fund, Rossignol and Wild Country.

Big Stone will roll out this fall with a multi-city tour to climber-rich locales such as Salt Lake City, UT, Boulder, CO, the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle, WA. Bedford's goal is to secure television broadcast for 2001. Wild Country and Video Action Sports will be distributors for Big Stone, selling to retail shops, climbing gyms and other venues.

Proud sponsors of this adrenaline-fueled flick include Wild Country, Sterling ropes, Wild Things and Princeton Tech headlamps.

A preview of Big Stoneís style and magnitude will be showing at the Outdoor Retailer show, Wild Country booth #207. Stop by and check out big-wall climbing on a massive scale. Meet Big Stone film star Tommy Caldwell as he answers questions and signs free Salathe posters at the booth, Friday, August 13th.
