EPA Approves Whirling Disease Killer BrightWater

July 22, Washington, D.C. A significant step toward saving this countryís wild trout streams was taken today as the Environmental Protection Agency approved a product called Brightwater. Whirling Disease has devastated famous trout streams throughout the Rocky Mountains and seriously damaged the fishing industry and tourism economies of states such as Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. BrightWater kills Whirling Disease spores on contact when applied to fishing and hunting gear. BrightWater will be produced by the Scott Fly Rod Company of Montrose, Colorado, and bottled for use by anglers, hunters, and other outdoors enthusiasts.

Whirling Disease Disinfectant Safe for Use on Fishing Equipment

Aug. 4, Whippany, NJ. The new Whirling Disease disinfectant called BrightWater has tested safe for use on fishing and hunting equipment. Case Consulting Laboratories tested BrightWater on waders, boots and nets made from neoprene, Gore Tex, nylon, cotton and other materials. Results confirmed that BrightWater causes no physical or cosmetic damage to such items, even when the treated products were examined under a microscope. BrightWater will be used by anglers and hunters to prevent the spread of Whirling Disease, which is caused by the parasite myxobolus cerebralis and has devastated trout populations throughout the western United States. BrightWater was developed by the Scott Fly Rod Company of Montrose, Colorado.
