Columbia Shop Talk (Product Technology Summary)

December 1998

Omni-Techô technology - Exclusively from Columbia Sportswear, Omni-Techô is engineered to provide protection by combining different base fabrics with appropriate coatings or laminates. All fabrics featuring Omni-Techô technology are treated with a durable water-repellent finish that retains 80% of its effectiveness even after twenty home launderings. In order to provide this superior hydrophobic environment, the base fabric is treated twice, both before and after the waterproof/breathable Omni-Techô coating is applied. All Omni-Techô garments are factory seam-sealed to ensure no leakage. Design features such as mesh linings and carefully engineered vents further enhance the breathability of Omni-Techô garments.

Omni-Dryô - This exclusive high performance moisture management technology is engineered to provide comfort and performance in a variety of conditions. Omni-Dryô technology keeps the body comfortable and dry by drawing moisture to the fabric face where it can quickly evaporate. Wicking performance is obtained by bonding hydrophilic molecules to the surface of naturally hydrophobic fibers resulting in rapid moisture transport.,/p>

Radial Venting Systemô - Available on select styles and exclusive to Columbia, the Radial Venting Systemô is the latest breakthrough in technical outerwear design. Replacing the traditional underarm zipper, the Radial Venting Systemô allows for maximum ventilation without uncomfortable underarm bulk. The addition of large venting pockets completes the system, allowing air to circulate freely when under maximum exertion. Waterproof construction and innovation work efficiently even while toting a backpack full of gear.

Radial Sleeveô - This exclusive design eliminates restrictions and tugging that occur in the shoulders of ordinary jackets. By carefully constructing the shoulder, armhole and underarm panels, more space is created, allowing for easier arm movement. All Columbia Sportswear parkas come with this feature.

Radial Inseamô - This exclusive design eliminates the restriction and bunching that occurs in the gusset area of ordinary pants. Special panels and gussets built into the rise and legs of the garment enhance the range of movement for activities including climbing, hiking and water sports.

Radial Comfort Systemô - Our exclusive Radial Comfort Systemô incorporates our lightweight, flexible Double Ripô fabric by placing it in strategic panels of the garment. By doing this we have significantly enhanced the comfort under the arms and decreased the overall weight of the garment.

Columbia Interchange Systemô - The Columbia Interchange Systemô is a distinctive layering design that gives consumers three jackets in one. Interchangeô parkas feature a durable, water-repellent outer-shell and an insulated, zip-in/zip-out liner. The benefit: two pieces that can be worn together or separately.

Omni-Stopô - Omni-Stopô technology combines a stretchable, waterproof, breathable Omni-Techô film with the insulation of MTRÆ Fleeceô providing a flexible, warm layer of wind protection and weather resistance all in one. Moisture transports through the non-porous polyurethane film creating a highly breathable laminate.

MTR Fleeceô (Maximum Thermal Retention) - MTR Fleeceô is a non-pilling, 100% polyester mechanical stretch fleece that provides a lofty, soft and very warm insulating layer. Weighing half as much as wool, itís a quick-drying fleece that remains warm even when wet.

Silent Rainô - Silent Rainô is a naturally water-repellent, non-pilling, burr-proof and totally silent 100% polyester fabric. To ensure total weather-protection, our high-performance Omni-Techô waterproof/breathable film is laminated to the base fabric. All seams are sealed with waterproof tape for a durable, comfortable and quiet garment for big game and waterfowl hunting.
