DeFeet EarthEator Socks
By Jon Sharp

DeFeet EarthEator SocksThere are many things in this world that don't go together. Oil and water. Cats and dogs. White shirts and chain lube (I've learned that one over and over again). Another one, though perhaps less well known, is food and feet. (Okay, I hope that didn't turn too many stomachs.) DeFeet has done just that--sort of.

The EarthEator sock, by DeFeet, is partially made up of a corn-derivative. This makes the EarthEator more environmentally friendly. Of course, coming from a company like DeFeet, it is important that it perform well also. The EarthEator comes in a green-toned style with a globe on the back of the ankle--perhaps to remind us why this sock is special.

In order to test these socks, I needed to wear them. So, wear them I did. Besides using them any time they were clean--special thanks to my wife who ensured this was often--I also chose them from my large stash of cycling socks to adorn my feet for the grueling LOTOJA--all 206 miles of it. That is how well they performed. DeFeet makes wonderful socks in general, and these are no exception. They wick well and breathe well. Their fit is perfect.

Summary: For only $2 more than their original AirEator, the EarthEator ($11) is a fantastic sock that not only works exceptionally well as a high-performance sock, but also is a little nicer on the environment. So, next time you want socks, think food, think environment, and think EarthEator. (Please note, these socks cannot be consumed--even in the event of extreme hunger in a remote location.)
