Review of Moonstone Minimalist Jacket
By Matt Smith
Down sweaters or jackets have been around for a long time. There is no secret that for dry cold, down is where it's at. There are times when what you really need is a light, packable layer you can throw on over the top to protect you from the cold. The Minimalist is one such jacket.
The shell on the Minimalist is fairly wind resistant and incredibly soft. The cut is suitable for use as a belay jacket and the side pockets are nice for keeping an energy bar or some chapstick from getting frozen. The included stuff sack makes it easy to pack away and still be easy to get at the rest of you things on your back.
Summary: The Minimalist is multi-functional down jacket that is casual, but also technical enough that you can take use it for most winter activites. It has incredible loft, so if you plan on layering it with a shell, make sure to plan on the extra bulk.
